Unofficial Bio:

Why did you choose this career?

I like writing and interacting with people. I’m also good with organizational details, and enjoy a glass of wine. So it seemed like a good fit. I can’t say I chose it though, because that would mean I had a plan, rather than making the most of whatever the universe served up.

What’s your favorite food?

What’s Jessica cooking tonight? That. (she knows my favorites better than I do)

What’s your favorite song?

Tough one. “Imagine” by John Lennon, “Going to California” by Led Zeppelin, “All Right for Now” by Tom Petty (my go-to lullaby for the girls). I tend to have as much love for albums as singles… The albums that have had the biggest influence on me are: Tales from Topographic Oceans by Yes, Olias of Sunhillow by Jon Anderson (yes, more Yes), Disintegration by the Cure, Abbey Road, So Far by Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Europe 72 by the Grateful Dead, Kid A by Radiohead, Houses of the Holy by Zeppelin, and All Things Must Pass by George Harrison.

What’s your favorite movie?

I Heart Huckabees! It raises the perennial question: How am I not myself? Oh Brother Where Art Thou? is another favorite.

What’s your favorite book?

I read The Lord of the Rings when I was 12, and nothing has come close to it ever since. Reading it at that young, vulnerable age permanently re-wired my brain to think in fantasy terms. The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joe Campbell comes to mind next. The Autobiography of a Yogi by Yogananda, and The Great Divorce by CS Lewis were also very formative for me. Later influences include Ulysses by Joyce, and Being and Time by Heidegger.

What’s your favorite recreational activity?

Writing unofficial bios about myself. Wheeeeee! This is fun!

I also enjoy “hunting” deer and other “wild” animals using a slingshot and gumballs. Stay away from my peonies!

You think the world would be a better place if:

How am I not myself? Who am I?

It would surprise people to know that:

I’m a community-voted “Hall of Fame” Dungeon Master (or “DM” if you’re cool. Cool meaning you play Dungeons & Dragons and know the lingo. Then again… if you know D&D lingo, you’re probably the opposite of cool, like me!) on the largest play-by-post Dungeons & Dragons website in the world. I also write role-playing adventure modules for Explosive Runes magazine.
